Benefit Concert Provides School Supplies and Book Bags to Children
Blues and jazz entertained the attendants at the black-tie Mo’ Betta Blues & Jazz Pre-Father’s Day Benefit Concert. The concert, held at the Galleria Conference Center in Warner Robins, Georgia, provided classy entertainment as well as an opportunity to support the community’s children. The event was organized by Warner Robins Housing Authority
Sharon Rogers, Event Coordinator for the Warner Robins Housing Authority, talked more about the event. “The proceeds were to benefit our 4th Annual Back to School Bash in which we give away book bags and school supplies,” she said. The event included music from song stylist TRYSHA, musician Otis Hicks, and Harold E. Thomas & Danger Zone.
Helping prepare children for school isn’t the only way Warner Robins Housing Authority helps the community. It also provides a necessary service for the city—providing affordable housing.
According to its website, the Warner Robins Housing Authority offers safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, persons with disabilities, and persons. The housing authority has 426 units of public housing throughout the city of Warner Robins and has 40 units under the Houston County Housing Authority. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) gives federal aid to the Warner Robins Housing Authority to manage the housing for low-income residents at prices they can afford. HUD also provides assistance with planning and developing the properties.
Rogers said the event was promoted through the press as well as through the housing authority’s own means. “We passed out flyers, email blasts and radio advertisements,” she said. Rogers added that because of ticket sales, the event had to change venues to accommodate guests. Needless to say, the event was a huge success.
The success of the Mo’ Betta Blues & Jazz Pre-Father’s Day Benefit Concert, children were able to have the right school supplies to help them with their education. Through the concert and other measures, the Warner Robins Housing Authority is living up to its mission statement, which is to “develop and promote quality housing options through partnerships and through creative initiatives that support a healthy atmosphere for the citizens of Warner Robins.”
