‘Tis the Season for Gift-Giving


The holiday season means that many of us are out buying presents or receiving gifts from family and friends. But if you’re a business owner,  you might also want to think about sending your customers a little gift of appreciation.

If you’ve developed a clientele from events you’ve held in the past, it’s worth it to show your customers that you care about their patronage and hope they continue to support your endeavors. Gregory Ciotti of Help Scout writes that gifts given to customers “must be relevant and personalized, noticeable and sincere.” Making sure the gift suits the customer will make them feel appreciated and respected.

Ciotti suggests handwriting thank you notes, offering event opportunities to learn something new about your business, or even give helpful books to customers. If you decide to create an event as a gift for your loyal customers, try making the event even more special by giving your most loyal customers an exclusive treat, such as a free gift card for attending.

You can also give customers tickets to local events in case you don’t have your own event planned. Julianna Karall of Restaurant.com writes that giving your customers a unique experience, such as tickets to a local sporting event or concert, will show that you really care about how they have helped your business or project grow.

Another way to show your customers you care is by giving them access to a loyalty program. SocialTriggers.com states that giving your customers an incentive, such as a loyalty card, will increase customer loyalty by 82 percent, as found in a study by researchers Joseph Nunes and Xavier Drèze.

Other ways to give your customers some holiday cheer include sending gift baskets, fun treats, and other types of small gifts that show that you care. Of course, depending on the type of business you’re running, it’s imperative to have a budget set for your customers’ gifts. If you can’t afford to buy gift baskets or if you have hundreds of customers, doing something cost-effective, such as writing notes or sending cards, will still get your sentiments across without breaking the bank.

There are many other ways to show your customers you value their support. However you decide to give back, make sure the gift is from the heart. It’ll certainly endear you to your customers and strengthen your relationships with them.
