How to Build Community with Raffles and Fundraising

10/23/2017

There’s one clear-cut reason to hold a raffle: to raise money for a charity. But there are often secondary benefits that go along with selling raffle tickets and holding a drawing. One of those benefits is helping to build a community.

Creating a Common Bond

A great way to bring a community together is by creating a common bond. In the case of a raffle, that bond can come from two sources, which happen to be two sides of the same coin:

  1. by bringing people together through charity
  2. by choosing a charity that brings people together

The first option requires finding like-minded individuals and bringing them together. But the simple act of organizing them can often put people with common interests together who might never have met before.

The second option can have broader appeal throughout the community, particularly if it’s something like a raffle to raise money for the local schools. A raffle that benefits the majority of a community can bring entire neighborhoods together.

Bring People Together Through Raffles and Fundraising

Online raffles can be incredibly successful in terms of raising money for a charity. However, nothing can bring a community together like a face-to-face drawing placed at the center of an event. Places like schools and community centers can go a long way in making everyone feel comfortable, which increases attendance and creates a welcoming environment.

Choosing activities that encourage interaction by the attendees during the event can not only foster an increased sense of community but also can lay the groundwork for any additional charity functions in the future.

In the end, a successful raffle can not only benefit the charity of your choice, but also your community as a whole!
